The fat guy arrives (Week of April 3 to Easter)

Tin container opera singer
It’s *almost* over

The fat guy may have sung out the XC ski season for much of the northeast, but in the pockets where the snowpack remains, the skiing is pretty good.

This post is about conditions for Apr 3 2023, and forecast for the next few days. See jump links to Conditions and Forecast.

Conditions

Spring skiing conditions, but get it while it lasts. Warm weather and rain showers in the week will reduce the snowpack, and since grooming has largely ended, trail conditions will become icier and wetter. Cooler weather and below-freezing nighttime temperatures for the weekend may only make for ice on the trails. In short, this week could be it.

Hit up ‘State of the touring centers‘ or in the menu above for reported conditions as of today. Snow depth graphic below:

Forecast

Temps will be well above freezing and springlike through the weekdays- in the 50s up north and 60s in the southern and downstate regions. Nighttime temps will be generally above freezing as well until the weekend. The first half of this week will see some rain showers.

The showers should end by Friday, when the weather will also turn cooler. Saturday and Sunday will have daytime temps in the 40s up north, with nighttime temps down to the 20s. Weather will be try for part of the weekend, with rain possible starting Sunday afternoon.

    Thank you for another season!
Today was the last day at Cascade in Lake Placid, but there still is snow pack enough for some more days at least.
I enjoy reading your posts, and look forward to next year!
