The heroes at Minnewaska have groomed the skate lane on th Awosting trail, reporting poor to fair conditions.
Other mid-Hudson areas are closed due to ice and rain. Even Prospect Mountain is closed because their trails are too icy. Check back later in the week as it may be slow going for most areas to clear debris and regroom hardened base cover. How’s the skiing in general?
BETA report of 12/29 says ‘Surface conditions will not be ideal until we pick up 3-4″ of new snow. So far, the forecast is that we will pick up that much, an inch or so at a time, by New Years.’. See weather forecast below for details.
Hit up ‘State of the touring centers‘ or in the menu above for reported conditions as of today. Today is an assessment day for many areas as they consider how much terrain is groomable. Snow depth graphic below shows pretty thin cover across most of the northeast, with exceptions in parts of the western Catskills, Adirondacks and Tug Hill, and the White Mountains:

Forecast
Lake effect snow for the Tug Hill and Airondacks Tuesday 12/30. This might be the best bet for the weekend.
Light snow overspreads the northeast in the afternoon of Wednesday 12/31 and continues through Thursday Jan. 1 2026. As indicated in the forecast snowfall map below, amounts will be small except for areas adjacent to the Great Lakes. Wind gusts of 50+ mph in southern New England are expected today 12/30.
Daytime temps through New Year’s will remain wintry, with temps in the teens to 20s in the north, and 20s to the low 30s in the downstate NY area. Stiff gusts of 20+ mph will contine to New Year’s Day before abating for a few days..

Light snow possible at the end of the weeked into Monday 1/5/26. High temps over the weekend will remain at mid-winter levels, with a warming trend starting Monday.
