Downstate update, and preview of conditions

I missed a post on Thursday by Minnewaska State Park to the Mid-Hudson Valley Cross-Country Ski group that a film crew was using the trail. down to the lake, and skiers would need to walk from the parking area to the entry point of the Castle Point trail.

The post also mentioned rain had caused deterioration in trail conditions and they were closed for skiing. We can hope the precipitation last night might have revived the trails, but no word yet from Minnewaska. Fahnestock got rained on and didn’t have much hope for a revival. High Point was also closed for skiing at last word on Friday.

BUT- Mohonk is reporting that their trails are open for skiing to day!

Snow ending today for the most part, with greatest accumulations in the Adirondacks, central and southern Vermont, the Berkshires, and the White Mountains.

The next closest areas that are reporting trails open are: Pineridge in the Albany area , Canterbury and Notchview in Massachusetts. and Prospect Mountain.. Expect soft and untracked trails. Classic skiing recommended for today at least.

The snow is soft and dense, so some areas need time to roll and groom. Otherwise great new-snow skiing day for flatter terrain. BETA reports that some rain fell overnight on Mar 2 creating a crust, on top of which fresh snow fell today.
