Rikert and Craftsbury have minimal amount of trail, and nothing else is available for nordic skiers who aren’t ready to ascend to higher country in the Adirondacks. But lake effect snow is due to arrive for the next few days up north, and temperatures will get colder for the weekend.

How’s the skiing in general?
Not much happening. A warm spell this week melted some of the snow, and most areas haven’t even posted that they’re ready to start the new season. BETA report of 11/25 predicts backcountry trails will be icy and fast when the tempratures get cold today, and to be prepared for the lake effect snow expected and colder temperatures if ventuirng forth high up in the north.

Forecast
Low pressure to the north and high pressure to the south will create gusty winds across the northeast for the next few days. Expect winds of 24-35mph, with guests as high as 50. In Central NY and Tug Hill, bands of lake efect snow could drop as much as a foot of snow in parts. Lesser amounts are expected in the Adirondacks over the next few days.

Precipitation will arrive in the entire region on Sunday. Due to milder temps this will be rain even in some of the north country, although the mountains could see snow.
the start of next week will be cold and dry. Next chance for precipitation comes form a low coming up from the south Tuesday or Wednesday
Northern areas of NY State and New England:
- Mountains (Adirondacks, NH Whites, Bolton/Gore): Expect colder highs (mid‑20s to mid‑30s) and lows in the teens/20s. Snow showers are frequent Friday–Monday, with heavier accumulations possible in Tug Hill and Mount Washington region.
- Lowlands (Burlington, Syracuse, Glens Falls): Slightly milder, highs in upper 30s to low 40s, lows in mid‑20s. Rain/snow mix Sunday into Monday, with lake effect snow in Tug Hill and Syracuse.
- Storm Systems: Two notable events — Friday (snow showers, localized heavy lake effect) and Sunday (widespread snow changing to rain/snow).
Southern regions and NYC metro:
- Storm system: Sunday brings widespread rain (50–70% chance), with inland areas possibly mixing with snow overnight.
- Wind: Breezy west winds Thursday–Friday (gusts 25–40 mph inland), calming by Saturday.
