Carpe ski’em: conditions for Feb. 20 2025

Seize the skis! President’s Day week has been a bit chilly and windy, but it’s finishing out well, with bluebird days. Minnewaska is still skiable, reporting fair to good conditions. This post is about conditions for Feb. 20 2025, and forecast for the next few days. See jump links to Conditions and Forecast.

How’s the skiing in general?

Up north, having cleared debris and regroomed once the wind died down, the touring centers and resorts should have a good weekend. The snow is piled higher than it’s been in years. Sunny days in the 20s and much less wind. What more can you ask for?Hit up ‘State of the touring centers‘ or in the menu above for reported conditions as of today. Snow depth graphic below:

Forecast

Hope you enjoyed this week, because there will likely be a bit of rain on the parade. Warming trend through most of next week, wich chances of precipitation in the first half of the week. A more significant system may enter the region in the second half of th week. Bullet-point details:

  • Lake effect snow early Friday for Finger Lakes and northern NY. The NYC metro may have a bit of snow from A system that hit the Mid-Atlantic late Thursday. Wind gusts of 30-40mph possible in the lower Hudson valley.
  • Winds will begin calming down on the weekend. Possible light snow in the far north on Sunday.
  • For the first half of the week, slight chances of precipitation across the northeast. With the warming trend, any precipitation will fall as rain in the downstate areas south of Vermont and New Hampshire, and snow or rain mix in the north country, except at higher elevation. Winds shift to come from the south in the beginning of the week, and then westerly again in the midweek, becoming stronger but nothing like last week.
  • By Thursday or Friday, a more signicant system could bring real precipitation to the northeast, but forecasts are uncertain at this time.
