Downstate NY XC conditions Sunday morning

How’s the skiing?

4-6″ wet snow, which makes for some sloppy mashed-potato snow, but definitely skiable. Enjoy the West Coast-style skiing for a day or two. Snow might be much drier further north.

Fahnestock is not open for skiing Sunday, but will be on Monday.

High Point is open for skiing, as are Mohonk Mountain House trails and Minnewaska State Park.

Minnewaska reported this at 8:48am:

Grooming is complete for the day at Minnewaska.  We received approximately 4″ of new snow.  The snow was mixed with sleet at times, as it fell.  The following trails are groomed without machine set classic track:  Millbrook Mountain (Yellow) and Hamilton (Yellow “H”).  The following trails are groomed with machine set classic track:  Upper Awosting (Green), Castle Point (Blue) and Lake Minnewaska (Red).  Overall conditions are fair to good.  The ski trails had an icy base on them before the snow last night and the new snow did not bond to the ice in some areas.  Snow base on trails is 2 – 3″.  The temperature is forecast to rise to close to 32 degrees today.

Greatest accumulation went a bit further north than forecast, but the storm was broad enough to drop 4-6″ across a wide area of southern New England and New York.
