Sophie Bushwick, senior news editor at New Scientist:
“There’s a lot of parts of the US such as New England and the Midwest where winter means snow and they oten have a snow cover on the ground of roughly 30 inches or more… if we continue to emit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases at the levels we are currently, snow is going to really melt away everywhere except really at the Rocky Mountains by 2100.”
Ira Flatow:
“So, New Hampshire will be like New Jersey for [skiers]”
Not just the end of ski holidays, but of entire communites feeling the way snow transforms the world. And whole ecosystems of flora and fauna will be displaced at a minimum, with some to be lost entirely. Ugh. Let’s take a moment to pre-reminisce of winters past:
