Cinnamon spice potato latkes: ski conditions for Hannustmas, 2024

Happy Christmas and Hannukah combined! Some take the meaning seriously, while others are all about the food. The latter are happy to celebrate anything.

The predicted snowfall did exactly as forecast, and delivered some nice powder snow to the north country of NY, the northern Greens, and the White Mountains. Craftsbury is now having good conditions, as is Mt. van Hoevenberg. Further south, Proospect Mountain trails are in terrific shape, Garrnet Hill and Lapland Lake are alos having good to excellent conditions, and Wild Wiings in VT promises a ‘snow globe’ ski experience.

This post is about conditions for Dec. 25, 2024, and forecast for the next few days. See jump links to Conditions and Forecast.

How’s the skiing in general?

Very good, where the trails got the necessary refresh. This is as good as it’s going to get through the end of the year, so get it while you can. Touring centers and resorts put in extra effort for the holiday week to begin with, and they got a crucial assist from a very well-timed refresh of snow. Plenty of trails in good condition for anyone to choose from, albeit it’s a bit of a drive from NYC.

Hit up ‘State of the touring centers‘ or in the menu above for reported conditions as of today. Snow depth graphic below:

Forecast

Good news/bad news time:

Good news: Quiet week in terms of weather, with seasonable temperatures, at least until Sunday.

Bad news: The entire northeast can expect rain or rain/freezing rain starting sometime Sunday and into Monday. Quantities not predicted at this time, so we can hope it won’t do too much damaage. The 6-10 day prediction is for temperature and precipitation to be well above average though.
