Boy is did it snow for a few places. For the next 2-3 days, possibly till the end of the week, XC skiing is alive again across the region! Hit up ‘State of the touring centers‘ or in the menu above to see the best places for snow and groomed trails.
This post is about conditions for Mar. 24 2024, and forecast for the next few days. See jump links to Conditions and Forecast.
Conditions
There’s spring skiing to be had, but the season for it will be short. Carpe ski’em.
Snowfall for the last 24 and 48 hours shows some localities and a swath of northern Maine, got 24″ or more snow over the weekend:

Sometimes the backcountry comes to the touring centers. Some centers had released their crews for the spring and are short-staffed to do a full grooming job, or the snow totals were too great, or both. See Viking, Jackson STF, Craftsbiury, Cascade, among others.
Snow depth graphic below:

Of course all that snow is compacting and will unfortunately melt pretty rapidly, but the density and depth mean some nice skiing for a few days.
Forecast
Dry weather for Monday and Tuesday, but wet weather comes in for the remainder of the week. Light rain showers will arrive overnight Tuesday-Wednesday. Potential for more rain from a system coming up from the east on Thursday.
The next weekend will be drier and seasonably cool, ahead of warmer weather expected in the first week of April.

This post will take the blog out to the end of th emonth. Thanks for reading. It’s been a real roller-coaster at the end. I’m probably going to put the blog into hibernation for the next ski season, so posts from here will be sporadic.
