This is the best skiing of the season. Minnewaska is still managing to keep trails groomed, and may get a sklight boost from a system tomorrow.
This post is about conditions for Jan. 18 2024, and forecast for the next few days. See jump links to Conditions and Forecast.
Conditions
It’s going to be cold (and breezy) on the trails over the weekend, but the snow will be great. Light, fluffy snow added a few inches of coverage up north and freshened up the trails. Skiers who are lucky got fresh powder for a classic jaunt. After grooming, it’s packed powder and perfect for skating or classic.
Let’s just hope that whatver snow arrives before next Wednesday provides enough cover to keep the trails open for the weekend after.

Forecast
Snow arriving Friday morning, with heaviest snow expected in Pennsylvania and New York State including the Hudson Valley and NYC metro region, and southern New England. Accumulations will not be very large. The period of snow will start early in the morning Friday and end end with light snow in the north country on Saturday. Saturday will be breezy, and combined with the low temperature exposure and wind chill will be a risk.

Sunday will continue to be breezy and cold. After dry days Sunday and Monday, a warm front from the Ohio valley will arrive in the northeast, meeting a cold front from Quebec. The mix of theses systems will cause a mix of precipitation- snow for the northern areas of NY and New England, but with spots of wintry mix. Light rain showers likely near the coast.
By Wednesday morning the snow showers in the north will also begin turning to rain. Rain becomes heavier and more widespread by Thursday.
