Despite what looked like a wipeout from rain, several touring centers look to be open later in the week or for the weekend, including Prospect Mountain, Lapland Lake, Trapp, Jackson and Great Glen. Garnet Hill is open, as is Craftsbury Notchview, Minnewaska, and Highpoint might be able to open by the weekend, if a bit of snow comes through for Friday.
Winter returns on the weekend- no spring skiing conditions for a few days!
This post is about conditions for Jan. 10 2024, and forecast for the next few days. See jump links to Conditions and Forecast.
Conditions
Rain-drenched snow in the north country needs a day or two to drain and dry out in order to be groomed properly. Currently, any trails open for skiing will be very soft and slushy.
A mild storm that is forecast for Friday should be a mostly-snow event for the Adirondacks, Green and White Mountains. Wintertime temperatures over the weekend will harden up the trail surface and make for fast and smooth tracks and trails.
Hit up ‘State of the touring centers‘ or in the menu above for reported conditions as of today. Snow depth graphic below indicates the situation is not as badly off as it could have been.

Forecast
Thursday, light snow showers generated by lake effect across northern New York State and Vermont. Snow could be heavy in the Tug Hill area.
Rain showers will arrive in southern NY and New England Friday afternoon, grading to wintry mix and snow going northward above the Albany and the MA-VT/NH border Friday night, Snowfall could be heavy at times. The rain-snow line will continue moving north and east through the night. By Saturday morning, most of the northeast will be getting rain or wintry mix.
Temperatures start to drop on Saturday evening, and the remaining precipitation turns to snow showers before ending Sunday morning. From late Sunday and the early part of next week there’s a chance of snow showers or wintry mix but there is too much uncertainty to predict preciptiation accurately right now. From Sunday through Wednesday, it will feel wintry, with below-freeing temps for much of the region, and breezy or gusty winds.
