Ask not ‘which is best?’ but if there’s any skiing at all. The answer is: YES.

Garnet Hill, Mt. van Hoevenberg, and Craftsbury have 4-5k of trails open. Gore Mountain, Rikert, Great Glen and Jackson in NH have 1-2k open. Not great but better than a big fat zero.
Garnet Hill is sweetening the offer with half-price trail fees today and discounts on lessons. Not sure if this will hold for the weekend so check beforehand.
This post is about conditions for Dec. 27 2023, and forecast through New Year’s. Probably the last post for 2023. See jump links to Conditions and Forecast.
Conditions
BETA report hasn’t been updated since Dec. 22. That alone tells you something. Touring centers are scraping by with snow farming, manmade snow, and very thin cover.
Conditions are springlike due to the temperature, but the rain during the midweek will not bring spring to mind. if we’re lucky enough snow will accumulate during the weekend to improve conditions for a New Year’s ski.
Hit up ‘State of the touring centers‘ or in the menu above for reported conditions as of today. Snow depth graphic below:
Forecast
Warm and wet air has brought rain into the northeast for the midweek. Potentially heavy rain tonight, with rain showers persisting through Thursday and into Friday. Cold air from the north enters the region on Friday, and this could result in wintry mix, icing, and hazardous driving conditions Friday evening.
On the plus side, the cooling temperatures will convert rain showers to snow in the higher elevations of the Adirondacks, Vermont, and New Hampshire on Friday night and into early Saturday. No significant snow accumulation expected however.
Conditions will begin drying out for the weekend, with some lake effect snow coming across the western region of NY and Pennsylvania on Sunday and into the first day or two of the New Year.
