About

Winter is a quiet and magical season. To be outside during or shortly after a snowfall is to experience transformation in the world itself. Cross-country skiing enables me to hold that experience for hours, at my own pace.

At its most elemental, skiing is about going somewhere over the snow, faster and farther than you can on foot. On a snow-covered trail, the intensity and focus of skiing leads to a state of flow- it’s ‘transporting’ for body and mind So each winter I make journeys across the snow line to seek out that place.

This blog started as an offshoot from work, an experiment in learning WordPress. It is now a seasonal project to record and map data that helps me answer the question: “if I have a chance to go skiing, where would I go?”. Occasionally I post some other random commentary about Nordic skiing. Hope it’s informative and sometimes useful or entertaining.
